Cast Iron
Chimineas UK
If you want to feel
the warmth of a real fire while sat on your patio why not choose a cast
iron chiminea. Without the hassle of a fully built fire pit or
fireplace, a cast iron chiminea is portable and very elegant to look
at. The Chiminea is the modern version of a traditional
Mexican fireplace.
Buying a Cast Iron
Chiminea
- Used as
a place to cook and a source of warmth
for hundreds of years, and an embedded part of Mexican culture. These
days they are widely used as a source of warmth on modern patios, as
well as for their visual charm.
- Traditionally
Chimineas are made out of clay but for
modern use these aren't as robust as cast iron or aluminium chimineas.
You'll find cast iron chimineas to be heavier than clay models, but the
benefits are that it won't crack or crumble.
- Cast iron
chimineas do need some maintenance. They
will oxidise and rust when left outside, this is normal. If you
treat
and paint them as the rust appears, your chiminea
should last you for a long time to come.
- When looking to
buy a chiminea, consider the size of
the fire bowl. Make sure it's big enough to burn the size of wood you
are going to be using.
- If you want to
eliminate sparks flying out of the
chimney think about buying a spark arrestor for your chiminea. Placed
over the chimney hole to prevent sparks from escaping, a spark arrestor
is simply a mesh screen.
- Different
spelling but same meaning. The Mexican
fireplace has a few spelling variations which are - chimenia,
chiminea, chiminia and chimenea.
