Tool Tips
Looking after your gardening tools will help give you years of reliable
use. Here's a few tips to help keep your Tree Pruners, Hand Loppers,
Gardening Saws, Hand Pruners and Hand
Shears in tip-top shape.
- Always make sure
you keep the moving parts oiled. Keep the blades free
of sap and cutting debris by wiping down with a cloth after use, follow
this with an oiled cloth for best protection against corrosion.
- When it becomes
difficult to cut, you need to sharpen the cutting
edges. Do this by running a file diagonally across the sharp edge and
away from you. The last sixteenth of an inch needs to be honed with a
sharpening stone.
Cultivating
and Digging Tools
Always remove any soil and wash after use. Store in a cool dry place
such as a garden shed, remembering to wipe them free of moisture first.
This will protect them from severe weather.
At the end of the gardening season give all your tools a thorough
clean, removing all moisture and using an oiled cloth to wipe them
down.
Oil down
hardwood handles with linseed oil.
Remember to use your gardening hand tools with care and only use them
for the jobs they were designed to do. For example, using a hoe to
prise
up a flagstone is not a good idea, as it could cause it to break.
