Garden Pond Liners
There are
essentially two types of fish pond liner, the flexible and the rigid.
Flexible pond liners (usually made from PVC or butyl rubber) moulds to
the contours of hole that has been dug for the pond, giving you greater
scope in the design of the pond.
Rigid pond liners
on the other hand are preformed (being made from reinforced plastic)
and need to have a
hole dug that matches the shape of the rigid liner, which can be a bit
more tricky.
Flexible Pond
Liner Tips
- When you receive
your new pond liner after inspecting it, wrap it loosely and store in a
dark cool place
- Always use
flexible rubber pond liner underlay to protect the underneath
from sharp objects
- Smooth and tuck
the liner into shape before filling with water and handle carefully.
Don't make the mistake of letting the water pull the liner into shape
- When the liner
is in place do not let anyone walk on it or expose it to sharp objects
- When looking to
buy a flexible pond liner remember the cheaper the material the shorter
it will last you. High quality fish pond liners should last 20 to 25
years
Calculating
Pond Liner Size
To work out the size of the pond liner you need first you need to find
the size of the pond, specifically the length and width
- To find the
liner length: Length = pond length + (2 x maximum depth) + 325mm to
overlap the edges
- To find the
liner width: Width = pond width + (2 x maximum depth) +
325mm to overlap the edges
These calculations will allow you to fit a liner to any size and shape
of
pond
