A handy tool for
digging, as well as for slicing through and lifting sod, obtaining
sharp lawn edging, skimming overgrown weeds and making vertical sided
trenches and holes.
Traditionally
having a wooden shaft, metal handle and blade the garden spade is a
tool that can be used for a multitude of garden jobs.

- Make sure the
spade is cleaned off fully after use and before storage
- Unless the blade
is made of stainless steel you will need to oil it once it has been
cleaned and before storage
- Store your
garden spade by hanging it up in a dry place, such as a garden storage shed

Spade Safety Tips
- Use safety
glasses to be on the safe side. When slicing under sod, for example,
small stones can fly up.
- Wear garden
boots that are reinforced in the toe area when using a spade. The spade
is a common cause of accidents in the garden.
- To help prevent
blisters wear a pair of stout gardening gloves
