lawn mower questions?
Have a craftsman 19.5 riding mower. Briggs and straton engine. Will start and run for about 5 minutes and cut off. Will pour a little gas in carb. and will start right up. Will have to sometimes pour gas into gas line upstream of carb, to get gas flowing into carb. Will start and continue to run for about 5 minutes and cut off. Have replaced the fuel filter, air cleaner, changed oil and replaced carb. dirphram and put gas dry into tank to remove any excess moisture. Still will run for about 5 minutes and cut off... what could it be???
All good advice but here is one more thing to check. Make sure the breather in the gas cap is clear to let air into the tank when gas is drawn out.

It was a year on September 16th that my husband pulled out of our driveway in Hickory, NC with trailer in tow headed for Fort Greely, Alaska to work on the Anti-ICBM Project, a project which he is not only important to him, but one that he is highly qualified to make a difference in the outcome.
Our year has been a busy one for both of us with me trying to juggle the business, home, auto and lawn tasks while he learns the particulars and politics of a new job and the already established contractor, Boeing.
My new best friend is the Craftsman battery charger on wheels that thankfully was left behind. My VW has had electrical problems since new and has not gotten better with age. If that was not enough it took me several times before learning not to leave the switch on the mower to where the headlights were left on!
We made arrangements with a neighbor's son to mow, age 13, only to find out that a 13 year old only wants to ride the tractor leaving the weed eating and trimming to me or hiring someone else in between our son squeezing in time to lend a hand. It was a full time job for our son to keep belts and blades on a tractor being used by this young man. I then began mowing myself and hiring the rest done until finding someone to do the work at a reasonable rate with their equipment and fuel which only happened about a month ago. Before then the red clay dust made me look as though I had been at the beach after six hours mowing.
The well: changing the filter took the system blowing up and breaking my thumb on the first attempt, but I am now a filter pro. Seems there is a little thing I didn't catch in the short class given by hubby - removing the pressure before filter.
My grandson was here for the summer, now 7 years old, and needed a reading tutor that took up the majority of the summer with sessions and homework, so the summer flew by for me. In addition; came an Olde English Bulldog puppy named Major Owen White Mountaineer the first week of June. Our son, Jason, did not think Mom had enough to do evidentally.
My husband and I talk a couple times a day and probably communicate as much as when he was home. As a matter of fact, I find that he is actually listening and I am not having to compete with the TV to be heard. It is when the water is not filling the washer, there is no hot water in the kitchen sink or a fuse blown in the microwave that have been tough for me since getting repair people to actually show up is not easy in this area.
On the Fort Greely end of things, the maintenance of the base housing is poor. Windows are boarded up rather than repaired, air conditioners have no place to drain, broken dishwashers, high grocery and fuel prices, availability of doctors, inactivity due to climate and weight gain from eating at the mess hall. In addition; he is unable to make many friends as it would be considered a conflict of interest to associate with the contractor you oversee.
As with any separation the weeks seem to come and go quickly in one respect yet the months are slow if that makes any sense. Life goes on and time passes by that you will never get back. If I allow myself to think about it in those terms I have a difficult time continuing to be supportive.
A couple months ago he was placed on Emergency Essential status meaning that he would serve overseas for two six month periods over the next three years. Part of the deployment procedure is a Bruce Protocol stress test of 12 minutes that he failed at the 10 minute mark. We can only hope it is nothing serious as the first cardiology appointment available was until October 16th then the doctor's office called and cleared the calendar and rescheduled for Oct. 29th..
Depending on how you look at things this can be good that he is not going to be deployed, however; are your "A Students" in cardiology starting practices in Fairbanks? Oh, and did I mention Fairbanks is 105 miles from Fort Greely? Our hope is the 40 ounces of coffee on the drive the morning to the stress test coupled with allergy medication may have contributed to his blood pressure soaring to 200/140 at the 10 minute mark.
It is October 10th and already 9 degrees there in Fort Greely. So the two seasons must be late May/early June and Winter.He will be coming home now from Dec. 5th through Jan. 8th and I have forgotten what a normal routine is. I have not cooked to amount to anything and have eaten when and what I please without any thought of what to fix for dinner! My routine is non-existent and his is regimented.
Now I think in terms of what I need to get done before he gets home and the list that I need to start for him while he is here.
Our being apart has become our mode of operation. In many respects I am thinking this is going to be more difficult than being apart.
