When a person has a greenhouse, it generally means one doesn't have to quit gardening due to weather. One can continue to grow many plant varieties irrespective of season.
While selecting one, choose a style which matches the decor of your house and also the garden layout. Climatic conditions must also be considered, when your place has heavy snows in winter, it's advisable not to select a straight or flat roof , but rather a roof which allows snow to slide easily.
Standard free-standing and with peaked or curved roof is very popular and that is why its found in most gardens. Square or rectangular allows utmost growth area for the plants, usually done with benches at the back and on the sides.
Wall attached or lean-to greenhouses designs are supplied and utilized when there is only less backyard space. These designs are very convenient and accessible for attaching the needed power and water supply.
Some green house designs:
1. The Gable greenhouse. The design of this kind is usually attached to the wall or even garage or any such structure using only half the design. In General, this kind has a flat roof panel and slightly sloping to the side and also vertical sidewalls. But at times, this type of greenhouse is attached to other greenhouses by employing the end wall more than the sidewall.
2. The Barn style greenhouse. The design of this type is, like the name, shaped like a barn which has wide roofs and also interior and has shorter walls. This is generally done in the garden with country setting theme or even a very rustic garden appeal. The design must be fixed to other greenhouses or can even be constructed freestanding in the garden.
3. The Dome greenhouse. The design of this kind is similar to the dome, as in it's one half of a ball which is placed on the land. This type can't be fixed to any structure and also can be made only a freestanding kind, since this design doesn't include sidewalls. This kind is a little expensive due to use of many pieces having various glazing which are required to finish this design.
5. The Gothic greenhouse style. The design of this kind has a historical gothic look. All the walls and the roof are done in such a way so as to make a continuous form, which allows snow to come down with ease. This design can be both freestanding or attached .
6. The Hoop greenhouse. The design of this is done with PVC or metal pipe to create the hoop shape then is covered with plastic. This design is cost effective on the first purchase, but then the maintenance of replacing covers (plastic) really do add up.
Whatever greenhouse design you decide on, look for one with stability and strength and should also contain these features:
1. Capable of enduring bad climatic conditions, like snowfall and very high winds.
2. Must have the needed support for the growth lights, hanging baskets and sidewall shelving.
3. Must posses intricate detail of possessing hinged and screened storm doors and also large side or in other words individual roof vents.
4. Wide selection of sizes and styles. Remember that costs limit the greenhouse size, but extensions can be added later when required and when you have enough cash for it.
5. Door can be adjusted to be lowered or dropped in the foundation so as to remove elevated steps.
