my petrol hedge trimmer wont work anymore?
its not very old , my spark plus is black which is caused of my too high two stroke mixture ... soo wats wrong with it . does it need a service ? McCulloch
Short answer is yes, it probably does need to be serviced. Getting the mix right is essential. I use a 5 litre can and mix in exactly 100ml for every 5 litres. Stihl make 50:1 two stroke engine oil available either in a one shot 100ml bottle if you use infrequently, or a litre bottle with the 100ml marked out in increments. You could always change the plug to see if it makes a difference but my guess is if you've been running it on a bad mix, other components may need addressing/calibration also.
After checking the plug, you could check the air filter is free of obstruction and dust. Also check the fuel filter is not obstructed.
These are standard checks. Beyond that if you don't acheive results, it may be the carburettor or something more complex, in which case it would be best to take it to your local service technician.
Hope this helps,
P.
